[MPlayer-users] dithering/equalisation plugins?

Hi

I'm currently using a meridian 518 processor (see
http://www.meridian-audio.com/handbooks/518user.pdf) to dither the output
of my mplayer box (playing flac audio ripped from cds -> 16bit, 44.1k, see
http://dalston.ku24.com/cluster/archives/000478.html) up to 24-bit (and do
some noise-shaping on the way).

The logic behind both dithering and noise-shaping is well explained at
http://www.stereophile.com/digitalsourcereviews/367/

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has (or is thinking of) developing an
mplayer plugin which will do these tasks... i'm using a digigram audio
card with would be happy to be outputting 24-bit instead of 16-bit, and a
well-implementted dither/noise-shaper would mean i could get rid of the
518...

I'm sure that the extra processor load would be well within the range of
many a humble motherboard, and outboard dithering (such as the 518) is
still an expensive way to get a (valuable) audio improvement -- it would
be great if mplayer could do it all without the need for more boxes!

Any thoughts?
