I don't know where I read it, but I added something or other some time 
ago, to a file in CVS/ in the mplayer cvs checkout dir I have, and it 
started automatically fetching libavcodec as well.

Now in CVS/Entries, I have the following line:

D/libavcodec////

Maybe that helps. *shrug*
