[MPlayer-users] using a remote with mplayer

The LIRC does me no good because it is for Infrared remotes which inherently require the remote to be pointed directly at the receiver (line of site).  My Linux box is in a completely separate room which is why I am looking for an RF solution.  The mp3remote (and other RF remotes from x10) can be used from the other room.

Anyone have any solutions for using a remote with mplayer other than LIRC?
