Oh, now I understand. You must have meant to say "squares" instead of 
"scares." I really had no idea what you meant. Yes, there is quite a bit 
of blockiness.

Without the source material, I can't really try anything. All I can say 
is experiment with the lavcopts. Make sure you read "encoding-tips.txt" 
in the DOCS directory. Also, I've benefited from the conclusions on this
