[MPlayer-users] wellsupported cross-platform codec (a bit OT)

hi all,

i am helping some friends with a promo cd and i have a small question
(it's rather OT): they want to release a video of their live performance
and they want it to play on win/mac/linux. with mplayer the linux-part is
taken care of :), but i still need a codec wich is well supported under
win and mac, and hopefully one i can use with mencoder. the video quality
is not that important, since it will be a vhs-rip of the concert, but the
audio quality must be good. the total concert lasts about 1
hour, and the encoded video should be around 650Mb. people with limited
computer capabilities should be able to play the video, so asking that
people should install this or that player on win/mac is to much to ask,
but i think installing some codec is not that troublesome. (i was told
that divx on mac is a bit of problem. something with a validator. encoding
to quicktime requires win-people to install quicktime-player and so on)

since you people are familiar with video-codecs and (inferior) mediaplayer
on various platforms, i thought i could asked it here. sorry for being OT.

thanx for the best media player around
see you

Stijn.
