Yes, but the source material in most cases (dare I call them "quality tv 
series/movies"? Pretty much everything except soaps) was 24fps film so what 
you get is two fields/frame that look the same (except for analog noise of 
course).

Or perhaps you really like salatut elämät... :)

Anyway, tvtime (tvtime.sf.net) for example does this sort of deinterlacing, 
pretty neat.
