The only problem with that logic, is that mplayer could be getting the 
command to enable subtitles from the config file, rather than the 
command-line, so it doesn't necessarily mean you want them in output images.

Then again, I suppose you could be right, since many options need to be 
manually selected from the command-line to disable the config or 
defaults when doing -vo jpeg/png.  Such as -nosound (who wants sound for 
that?), and -osdlevel 0 (if you are also using -ss), etc.

Hey, I've seen plenty of things that aren't very intuitive in mplayer, 
but that tends to happen in any complex piece of software.
