I didn't think that was going to fly. Sorry about that. Just to whine a
bit, no access from my computer to internet, so I was lazy (i.e. I'm on
another PC copying not quite by hand). Also, my system is a bit screwy at
the moment as I haven't had time to fix major bugs, and hide my face in shame
at my horrible configuration. Those disclaimers aside,
here is a bugreport.

I have tried -vo xvidix and -vo xv and observed this problem. I can try
more video outs if desired. Also, type of file doesn't seem to make a
difference.

Exiting... (Quit)

I quit prematurely, but again, this doesn't seem to matter.
So mplayer says DPMS is enabled. In fact, it says it twice. I have a
script
called blank and noblank as follows which I use to control screen
blanking for less enlightened apps (e.g. ogle).

blank:
xset +dpms
xset dpms 0 0 0
xset s 600
xset s blank

noblank:
xset +dpms
xset dpms 0 0 0
xset s 0

I cat these to samp1 and samp2 respectively, the difference?
# diff samp1 samp2

You may wonder at the logic of my script. Good or bad, it used to work
with
versions before pre8. If my script is faulty, please let me know.

Anyway, sorry for the previous (non-existant) bug-report. My system needs
a major overhaul, but unfortunately I have a (work-related) program
running at the moment so I can't take her down :(
