That's just plain stupid: you can use -dvd 1 instead of an 
already-reduced-greatly-in-quality-avi file. Its even in the example.

If the audio is always the same amount off you should try the -sync option. I 
suggest you edit the script a bit to make experimenting with mplex a bit 
easier.
