Did you try the bsdbt848 driver in MPlayer, or I am be wrong and that only works for FreeBsd..
As well I am pretty sure you don't mean losslessly encoding....
I think you mean good lossy encoding like divx. I'd imagine libavcodec might give you realtime
though ymmv...
