[MPlayer-users] Problems (vertical) deinterlacing

On encoding a PAL movie (Futurama)
with deinterlacing

-vop scale=640:480,pp,crop=710:576:6:0 -npp ci

there is a VERTICAL band on the left side
which won't disappear, regardless if the crop
settings are 712 (dividable by 8) or 710...

-vop scale=640:480,crop=710:576:6:0,pp -npp ci

works !
Question: why does this vertical band appear
or is there a solution?
I am using MEncoder CVS-020711-03:19-3.1

(i can create a sample of the file if requested.)
(ok, no log attached, just curious if someone knew
about it, if no one answers, i will post again with
full information as stated in bugreport..........)
