For example a VideoCD has to be one of the followning formats:
352x240 (NTSC), 352x288 (PAL)
and SVCD something like 480x480 (NTSC), 480x576 (PAL)
The Point is, I want get rid of the black bars on the side, top an bottom of
a Movie and after that scale it back to a standard size.
But on second thougt it may work some way like this: if some day cropping
will work, it could maybe done bei resizing for example 480x576->500x600
larger and cropping than to 500x600->480x576

mea culpa ... I read the html-mplayer stuff but not the manpages of mplayer
and must have overseen (oder wie es im englischen heissen mag ;)
the -pp part in the mencoder-manpage, which is pretty short. :-/
