I completely agree with you, and I think many people do. Unfortunately Linux 
has a self-styled "hard core" of  purists who are afraid that linux will 
become popular. If that happens they fear for the air of exclusivity they 
feel Linux gives them now.
(warning! Sarcasm mode) If it were up to some people vi and emacs would be 
the only ways to edit text on linux (don't misunderstand, vi is my editor of 
choice, but there are times where kedit is a good friend also), we'd all use 
command-line MP3-players and watch movies in ascii-characters. (Sarcasm 
off...)
I'm not saying anyone here are quite that bad, but there's a strong 
resistance towards taking necessary steps toward user-friendliness in some 
quarters, and this is strongly reflected in the documentation. If you're 
going to ask people to RTFM (They should!), then at least do not insult them 
in that manual.
