[MPlayer-users] hardware acceleration

I would like to playback avi, asf and mpeg files to a TV via a video card 
that has svideo output.  Am I better off getting a more expensive card that 
may support some kind of hardware acceleration, or am I better off using a 
higher power host ?
Can someone recommend a good choice of video card for this ?
