[MPlayer-users] dvd help

Mplayer functions fine with avi's and mpg's.  When I try to play a dvd, 
the video comes up, but is horribly slow.  I have tried the -framedrop 
and it is still horribly slow, and tells me that my system is too slow 
to play this.  When I do a top mplayer is eating up all of my available 
cpu cycles.  I have recompiled my kernel with mtrr support, I have dug 
around unsuccessfully trying to get gcc to optimize for an AMD chip, but 
it seems that I would have to jump to gcc-3.x.  I have installed the 
gatos ati.2 drivers.  I cannot find the bottleneck.  I have an LCD 
monitor, so I don't know if this is a refresh rate problem.  I also have 
a CD-RW on the same IDE chain with the DVD, and both are being picked up 
a SCSI devices, so I don't know if the SCSI emulation may have something 
to do with it.  I am out of documentation provided leads, if anyone can 
asist here, I would be greatful. Here's the dirt:
