It has been said many times before here: Upon configuration the script
checks for certain features of YOUR hardware, especially the CPU. Gcc is
then called with switches so that it generates code which is tuned to
YOUR hardware and linked against YOUR libs. As a result, you get
performance which is only possible with open source.

If the developpers begin to hunt down bugs which result from hardware
incompatibilties because the stuff was not  built on the same system
where it is run, then they would simply waste their time. In that case,
they could as well write code for M$ like "operating systems".

Think about that.. or go and paly with windoze.
