hmm, can you please send you /proc/cpuinfo and kernel version?
(cat /proc/cpuinfo and uname -a (hmm or did you write already it's 2.4.6, 
then don't need it of course)
And did you compile your kernel for the correct cpu type? (I think it should 
also work if not, but not 100% sure)
