[MPlayer-users] framebuffer problems

I am also in RH7.2. Just to give you a hint (perhaps is totally
unsuccessful on your computer) the big problem that I had was ... the
SOUND!!
Don't ask the guys of mplayer. They have done something great but they
don't like to go into "particular details".
I have solved all my problems using a sound driver that they say does
not work. Forget it and try this:

mplayer -vfm 3 -ao sdl:esd yourChoice....

If you don't have SDL, get it. Install ESD or enlightment or any kind of
esound. You have everything needed in RH dist. Also, you could get
Ximian that is "finish" and stable from yesterday.
I have never been able to use framebuffer with success but I don't have
one of those wonderful graphics card. Nevertheless I assure you that the
quality that I get to see divX films is really outstanding, with no one
drop and extremely small difference with the original DVD. It is a
pleasure to see my films on TV using the video-output of my laptop.
Almost incredible. And what is also surprising is to see your CPU
working at the smaller rate thinkable. Good luck
