That doesn't seem to work - I just get:

Requested audio codec family [a52] (afm=liba52) not available.
Enable it at compilation.
Opening audio decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg/libavcodec audio decoders
AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 448.0 kbit/29.17% (ratio: 56000->192000)
Selected audio codec: [ffac3] afm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg AC-3)


followed by a series of:

[ac3 @ 0x1008031a0]incomplete frame
[ac3 @ 0x1008031a0]invalid frame size
[ac3 @ 0x1008031a0]frame CRC mismatch

with no sound... There is an alternative of building liba52 separately
and linking mplayer against that, but it sounds a bit long-winded.
