If you don't have the HW but would like to work on VA API too, may I 
suggest you to write a VDPAU-based backend to VA API[*]? ;-) I think this 
is possible, but I have not tried it myself yet. I plan to do so, though 
at much lower priority.

[*] The git tree as a test_12.c which embeds a basic MPEG-2 clip. I could 
produce similar samples for other codecs if you have a tiny enough video, 
e.g. 64x64.
