mplayer has very few developers.
reimar and uau are the only two who are still active (kinda) and work
on the core mplayer code.

then there are a few other active devs who only work on small pieces of
mplayer.

diego (build, docs, patch review, homepage, bugzilla, etc)
iive (xvmc, vo, misc fixes)
greg (subtitles)
eugeni (subtitles)
ben (stream, vf, misc)
cehoyos (network, ext patches)
nico (dvb/mpeg)
me (codecs, some ext patches, homepage)

(apologies if i forgot anyone)

there are plenty of unapplied and unmaintained patches on our mailing
list. also in our bugzilla and in the bugzillas of distros who package
mplayer. plenty of unfixed and unreported bugs too. mplayer has a lot
of unmaintained code, including GUI/ and mencoder.

this is a call to arms! we need more developers!

we need more patch reviewers! we need more patch committers! we need
more bug fixes, code cleanup, and security reviews. we need more
organization, so we can release rc3 (and rc4!). we need to consolidate
our code and share our work with vlc, xine, ffmpeg and gstreamer.

will you help us?
