You don't have to make install just to test a newer version. Also ffmpeg
dts works fine with -demuxer lavf (which admittedly is not an option of
you want subtitles as well though).

This is exactly the same problem as you already reported and shouldn't
be specific to -fixed-vo but actually the other way round.

Are you really sure this is the version you gave above? Without weird
patches? As I understand it this is exactly the problem that should have
been fixed by r13844 (though only for -fixed-vo).
Maybe it broke again somewhen, but I sure didn't notice then.
