i thought the point was to get vlc/xine/mplayer to use libavformat
so that all of the devs could work on one single codebase instead
of reinventing the wheel four times.

maybe someone should write up what is planned for mplayer's future?
of course, no one would agree on it, so lets just drop this now :)
