That's true, but it works in a typical installation if you
pass "--with-extraincdir=/usr/include/lzo" to configure (that's what I'm
doing).
I didn't remember if the /usr/include/lzo location came from lzo 2.x or from
our packaging, so I left it out (I think a lot of people
need --with-extraincdir anyway, to find cdparanoia's headers).

Looks good to me -- but then I've always been in favor of dumping old
versions, some others will probably disagree.
