The current state of things was that I suggested a possible workaround
to Uoti's concerns, and received no reply.  I'm not particularly keen on
coding up my suggestion anyway only to have it shat on later, so I had
wanted to get a even a vague "this basic approach sounds workable"
before proceeding.
