it turned out that James Dutton added to his own dvdread import those 
getbits() function from the very start, without adding a notice in cvs

I decided that tomorrow I will export dvdnav's version of dvdread
as standalone library (installed as shared/static that dvdnav will
link to), thus we could and should remove main/dvdread and
eventually import as external the new version.
I also noticed that due to some inclusion black magic mplayer includes
its own dvdread/*.h files instead of the system-wide headers even when
using --disable-dvdread-internal is specified, maybe because -I. comes 
before -I/usr/local/include or maybe not (I don't know), but the
result is that every kind of navigation feature is totally broken, so
an update of dvdread is more and more urgent
