although I am not contrbuting to MPlayer, I want to note that recently
quite some people started contributing or became developers recently.
I think for example of the new alsa-maintainer and the dvdnav-patch
that is in the works.

Maybe MPlayer is in a "generation gap". But such things tend to get better.

But yes, a new release is really needed :=)
