Can you believe that I trying to do (almost) the same thing :-)
I have messed around with the ancient mplayer os x code because I wanted to
activate the de-interlacer but I haven't succeded in compiling the newest
mplayer binary.
I did however manage to activate de-interlacing and I updated the swedish
language project.
Reading your post I realize that you are far better at this than I am but at
least I can provide a swedish translation and an option to activate the
de-interlacing...
So, can I participate in the revival of mplayer osx? :-)
