Yes, iirc the point where it ended was, that we asked whether
someone knew how to detect the correct monitor aspect.
Noone replied and after i while i forgot to search for it.
So, now you have someone to blame.

Ok, again: Does someone know how to get exact monitor aspect
from X without assuming anything ?

And yes, i tend to agree that the default should be switched
to square pixels if the monitor aspect cannot be detected.
