THe last time this topic was discussed was less than a year ago. Not much 
has changed since that time. If I remermber correctly it has been said 
said that there are people who use non-4:3 resolutions on 4:3 CRTs and 
that those people do not want to use a command line option or a proper 
X11 configuration.

Anyway - I know how to use the -monitoraspect option.
But I think it is a pitty that more and more people who try mplayer or 
xine will see that xine gives the right aspect ratio out of the box while 
mplayer does not.  (and btw all other programs assume square pixel, too)
