I think the default should be monitor aspect autodetection.
If there is no autodetected we fall back to 4:3 or square pixel.

If somebody wants the default monitor-aspect=4:3 he could put it in
the config file.

Under X there is speacal function that queries phisical dimensions of
the visible area.
I think it is also possible to extract aspect from modeline (after all
monitors do that too;)
