Hm, indeed! Unfortunately I have no good source of uncompressed video 
:-)  Most television seems to be mpeg2 these days too. :-( My webcam 
has lovely Bayern-RGB artefacts though, I'm going to see what qpel does 
with that next... :-)

FYI, the mpeg2 stream I was re-encoding had an average bitrate of 
7000kbit (yes, ~7 mbit) (as measured by mencoder -ovc copy -nosound ).
