I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. What's in the patch
works exactly like the existing VCD plugin (for now) with the
exception mentioned: if a cdrom is not mentioned explicitly in the
command, nor have you arranged cdrom_drive to be set, to the extent
that the OS supports getting a list of CD-ROM drives, each one is
checked to see if it has a VCD in it. And in addition to giving a
CD-ROM device name to play, one can give the name of a device image
file in one of the format libcdio understands.

As for updating the documentation, I'd rather wait on that. As we just
saw, we have those who already have an opinion on how things should
work (without trying it out). Depending on how things go with this
much, there could be more changes or none. If the patch gets applied
and there are no further changes, I'll be happy suggest a patch the
the documention saying basically what I wrote in the above paragraph.

If you want to see documentation on what *might* look when things are
more complete, there you can look at:

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/xine/xine-vcdnav/doc/vcd-info.txt?rev=1.4&view=markup

or the corresponding texinfo file. Or look at the VCD section in the
xine manual page.
