Good work. You're right about quoting. Although I can confirm the problems
with lame in version 3.89beta. 3.90 and up work fine when compiled with
gcc-2.96RH.

It would be nice to mention that RedHat also provides gcc 3.0.4 packages,
you can get them from ftp://updates.redhat.com.
To compile mplayer, only these two are necessary:
libgcc-3.0.4-1 (only if you want vidix)
gcc3-3.0.4-1
