[MPlayer-cygwin] mplayer gui -vo gl2 problems

Just wondering if anyone using the 
http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php mplayer port has had problems 
using the -vo gl2 switch ?
It works on the normal cli version of mplayer but not for the gui. I get 
"error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device."
Not sure what it could be as it works on the normal version as I've said.
I know directx is default but as in a thread a while back because of my 
window skinning that won't work.
I also tested on another computer and I get the same results.
