Well, some of them were within 2 minutes of each other. Even in such a case,
just waiting a few minutes would allow to merge commits.

No, it's not. It's a matter of weighting priorities: is it better to
just commit now or is it better to wait a few hours or a day to spare
others reading the same commit message several times etc.
Anyway there are more important things, but you asked for reasons
why committing it separately is worse, and we gave such reasons.
