Yes, you have a point.  Docs are somewhat different, though.
Consistency is an important part of any written document.  It makes it
look more professional and polished and ultimately a tad easier to
read. Stuff like spelling and punctuation are cosmetic in the end, but
I think you agree that they should still be correct and consistent.
Maybe you could compare it to something like the consistent use of
interfaces throughout a program.  But this is starting to get slightly
philosophical...
