That indeed got me rid of the error messages.

tinterlace=0 made the video to be displayed in HUUUGE format on my 
computer - after burning to DVD, it didn't display correctly on my 
recorder - only saw the upper 3rd.
Scaling down to 720:576, or use of tinterlace=1 resulted in very bad 
bitrate - something about 2500.

How can I retain the quality ?
