Centos is fully compatible with RHEL, as far as I know. ATrpms hosts
packages for RHEL, e.g. here:
http://atrpms.net/dist/el5/mplayer/

Since mplayer might have some dependencies, it might be a good idea to
add ATrpms repositories to your yum configuration:
http://atrpms.net/install.html
and then
yum install mplayer

But installing from source is quite easy - try it!
