Have you tried "-lavfopts ipod". My ffmpeg conversions with
"-f ipod" also play on iphones.
Not entirely related:
With bframes=0 (which is correct for ipod/iphone) trellis doesn't
have an effect, and you don't need the partitions for bframes.
