I had similar problems that I thought might have been caused by leaving
harddup out of the filter chain, so I put it back. The problem was not
remedied.
What did remedy the problem was not only to use "harddup" but to also
substitute a filter chain based on filmdint instead of "pullup, softskip".
The reason that I'm not including the details for that construct is that I
don't think the details are likely to make a difference in cases other than
the one I was dealing with. My point is that trying other methods besides
"pullup,softskip" for handling pulldown might be necessary. Filmdint is just
one of several, I think.
On second thought, I will include details for my filter chain, only because
it provides an example or a possible starting point. There was some debate
on the subject, so it may behoove you to read the entire thread.*
