[MEncoder-users] grayscale filter

Hi all.

I can't get grayscale conversion working.
I convert black & white movie from dvd (with colorful noise) to h264:

mencoder VTS_06_1.VOB -o test.mkv -of avi -ovc x264 -oac copy -x264encopts 
crf=28:no-chroma-me -lavdopts gray

but the movie is still with coloring artifacts.

I even tried running mplayer -lavdopts gray VTS_06_1.VOB, 
mplayer -lavdopts gray any_file.avi
with no luck - they still are colorful.

Does anybody have an idea on how this problem may be solved?
