[MEncoder-users] losing 5.1 audio on -oac copy transcode

Thanks for the -audio-demuxer 20 -rawaudio format=0x2000:bitrate=384000:channels=6:rate=48000 suggestion...and sorry for my slow reply ('very busy week at work). Anyhow, I tried this and I get the same result...the 5.1 audio is there, but no player seems to recognize it by default. I can only get 5.1 audio played back if I force mplayer using afm hwac3 -channels 6 and I have no way to force this in GBPVR (my preferred video player).
Anyone have any other ideas?

Unfortunately, things are still not working for me. I tried just jumping to the middle of a movie and transcoding a 30 second clip, but it still behaves the same (5.1 is there, but not recognized by most players). Thanks for the great suggestion though! Anyone have other ideas of what to try?> >> >> From: scowl at pacifier.com

If I play it with mplayer, it also plays with 2-channel audio by default, but I can get 5.1 if I force it with -afm hwac3 -channels 6. The original file does not have any problems playing in 5.1 on any audio player (except mplayer, but will work if I specify -afm hwac3 -channels 6), so it seems something in the transcoding process is causing this problem. I'm guessing it simply has the wrong header information (Mencoder identifies the original file as AC3 2 channel when it starts transcoding despite the fact that the 6 channels are actually there…so it is probably passing this misinformation to the transcoded file). >
