The transition in the US isn't comparable to the switch to DVB in
Europe.  With the switch to ATSC also comes a 6X increase in
resolution, and much larger bandwidth than DVB to support it
(6MHz/19Mbps).  Even the lowest-end STBs must be able to decode that. 
It's going to be a long time before the hardware required to do so even
drops below $100.
