[MEncoder-users] Use of mbd & precmp, subcmp, cmp, or mbcmp mutually exclusive?

Hi All,

man_page.html says of mbd:
"If any comparison setting (precmp, subcmp, cmp, or mbcmp) is nonzero,
however, a slower but better half-pel motion search will be used, regardless
of what mbd is set to."
To me that would indicate that - when any of precmp, subcmp, cmp, or mbcmp
is nonzero - any mbd= setting is ignored. Does that mean then that the use
of mbd in the following and other examples from
menc-feat-enc-libavcodec.html 14.3.4. is redundant?
"vcodec=mpeg4:mbd=2:mv0:trell:v4mv:cbp:last_pred=3:predia=2:dia=2:vmax_b_fra
mes=2:vb_strategy=1:precmp=2:cmp=2:subcmp=2:preme=2:qns=2"
Thanks and kind regards,
Francois
