The patch was not rejected, simply it was not applyed
because Corey was busy with other work and the discussion
just stopped.

Just to remind:
A first discussion starts here:
[PATCH] channel reordering for 6ch audio
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-eng/2006-July/044844.html

Later continued here:
[RFC] 6-channel AAC and channel reordering
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-eng/2006-October/046963.html

And the last thread was:
[PATCH] audio channel remapping
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-eng/2006-November/047269.html

Essentially there are two set of patches that can handle the automatic channel
remapping:
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-eng/2006-October/046988.html
(solution A: the de/encoders to do the reordering)
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-eng/2006-November/047269.html
(solution B: channels remapping is done via filter)

The discussion was about having the audio channels stored in planar format
instead of interleaved format. In this way the remapping does not add any
overhead.

Since the audio channels are still stored in interleaved format
and channels reordering IS a real need, it would be good to apply one
of the two patches.
If and when audio channels format is going to change, the patch can be
removed.

I have worked on the solution A, but I prefer solution B.

Is it time to resurrect the thread on dev-eng?

Ciao
Giacomo
