[MEncoder-users] converting .mov to .mpg for DVD burning

I have some .mov files that were from a summer outdoor concert that I'd like to burn to a DVD to watch on a TV. I've been told that in order to burn
to a DVD that I first need to convert it to a .mpg file. Mencoder does this but the clarity gets distorted with the scale option. I'm using this:

mencoder 77s.mov -oac pcm -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mjpeg:mbd=1:vbitrate=1800 -vf scale=640:480 -o 77.mpg

What scale does it have to be at for TV and how do I resample the file to make the resolution better?

Marty
