Why should it not work for you? Unless your video is very very short, a 5
frames offset with not change what is the middle, and you can rarely seek to
the very end anyway, just a few frames before it.

And I do not think that decoding five frames instead of one makes a
significant difference in time with regard to the time for mplayer startup.
