the quick answer is that options that turn on additional bitstream
features will not work (things like 4mv, qpel, ...) while ones that
just change the strategy for encoding (trell, *cmp, ...) _should_
work in principle, but might still be broken in implementation.

i would recommend just experimenting with options you want to use and
see what combinations produce something playable. if the option
doesn't work it will almost surely generate corrupt files on any given
input.
