[MEncoder-users] -vf scale problem NOVIRUS

I'm using a fairly recent cvs of mplayer/mencoder, and
I've noticed an odd -vf scale problem. Basically it
won't work if scale is the first filter in the list.
for a 720:480 stream you can place
crop=720:480:0:0,scale=480:480 and it will work fine,
but just putting in scale=480:480 won't even run, it
just exits with a message
(from mplayer)
SwScaler: BICUBIC scaler, from Planar YV12 to Planar
YV12 using MMX2
VO: [xv] 480x480 => 640x480 Planar YV12
FATAL: Cannot initialize video driver.

FATAL: Could not initialize video filters (-vf) or
video output (-vo).

(from mencoder)
SwScaler: BICUBIC scaler, from Planar YV12 to Planar
YV12 using MMX2
videocodec: libavcodec (480x480 fourcc=34504d46
[FMP4])
FATAL: Cannot initialize video driver.

Since its easy to circumvent the error its not that
much of a problem, I'm just wondering why its
happening.

Thanks

PS: yahoo's auto-advertising-footer now contains some
crap about "we protect you from nasty viruses" so the
spam checker now belives every mail from yahoo is
spam. Oops.
